Ranthambore is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan,
about 180 km from Jaipur. It is named for the historic Ranthambore fortress,
which lies within the national park.The park is one of the finest tiger
reserves in the country. Ranthambore was decalred a wildlife sanctuary in
1955 and became part of Project Tiger in 1973. It got it's status of a
National Park in 1981.
